Far From The Promised Land

Long before our great King Xerxes sat upon his mighty throne
Long before Remus and Romulus had even thought of founding Rome
The God of all the world made a covenant with a righteous man
That the faithful seed of Abraham would be taken to the Promised Land.

Many years all Israel slaved beneath the pharaoh's hand.
But then the God of Pow 'r raised Moses up to take them out of Egypt-land.
Forty years of wandering in the wilderness and desert sand,
And after many years of war - Israel had the Promised Land.
The golden age of Israel lived on 'til after Solomon's reign.
Then tribes divided for 200 years and then invaders came .
In war ten tribes were carried off in long Assyrian caravans
And later Babylonians took the rest far from the Promised Land.
Did the Jews forget God and the covenants He had made?
No - in his captivity, Daniel always prayed.
Soon Persia swallowed Babylon with the help of God's own hand .
And so the seed of Abraham might return unto the Promised Land.
Persia stretches out from Ethiopia to India.
Greeks come and Egyptians come to see our King in Susa.
Jewish men and women also live in Persia-land.
Like Daniel they are faithful - tho' they live far from the Promised Land.
