Grandmere's Lullabye
How sweet! That is my favorite song I didn't
know you knew it!
I couldn't help but pick it up.
Did you know you hum it ev'ry time you see the moon?
I do?
It's true.
Each Friday night when I was young
I'd spend the night at Grandma's house.
You're French one?
Yes, Grandmere.
In the evening you could find us wrapped in blankets on her porch swing.
Swinging...
And singing!
And how she made old Bible stories live for me!
I felt her faith in every word she said!
And even now, in times of trouble, what she taught comes back to me,
Although the words were spoken long ago and she's now dead...
We'd count the stars as they appeared Grandmere would start to sing
In French?
Of course. . .
And I'd begin to drift to sleep all snuggled on her swing,
And she'd sing:
Le jour et presque fini
La nuit arrive doucement
Doux sommeil toute la nuit
Bonne nuit! Bonne nuit!
